According to a definition, motto is a short expression of a guiding principle. Mottos in ancient languages have always been popular, since they express such principles with authority and wisdom of the ancients. User friendly interface below helps to create online mottoes in Old Norse, the language of the Vikings. Catchy phrases that can be created using this tool may be also interpreted as Viking slogans or even battle cries. Such a motto would adorn a weapon as an inscription or shock enemies when shouted during a reenactment of a Viking battle.

I’m having trouble with the translator tool.
Forge (blacksmith type)isn’t an option.
I’m trying for “wolf forge”.
Thanks in advance.
Hello Jeff. It’s not a translator tool. You only can choose what’s hardwired. The word ‘forge’ is not included.
Thanks.
Hello,
I am working a tattoo and would like to use

Thank You and thanks for the site.
Thanks for the feedback, Jay.
Hi, I am looking to translate “I bear the helm of awe in defence of my treasure” into runes, would this translate correctly if put into your ‘translate your name into runes’ generator? With it being a sentence would it work the same. Sorry for the uneducated question but was looking to get it as part of a tattoo and wanted to make sure I’m putting down the correct translation
Many thanks
Hello Luke. Note that the rune converter does not translate from one language to another. It substitutes letters for runes. So yes, your English phrase will be converted into runes if you put it into the converter.
Thank you so much for your time. Your website is brilliant, there is nothing else that even comes close with the amount of information you provide : )
Thank you, Luke.
Was wondering where I can find the Viking battle prayer written in runes?
I am making a chest for my husband who has been researching the history and I want to surprise him ( the reason I can’t ask him) with the prayer on the chest.
Thank you so much in advance.
Hello Heather. The short answer is nowhere. Do you mean the English text written in runes or Old Norse text written in runes?
Hi there,
I wanted to know if there was a translation (or roughly) to Old Norse for “we must look to the stars” or “gaze upon the stars” or “look towards the stars”. Anything would be great!
Thank you!
Hello,
I need some help, I want to design a tattoo with runes. I am into Vikings and according to your website, if I want to design a Rune sentence I need to use Old Norse and then translae it to Runes. Well the problem is, I can’t find the old Norse word for Chaos. I want to translate this sentence into Old Norse and then translate it to Runes: In order to understand peace one must have a good knowledge of chaos.
So please can you help?
Hi,
Using the motto generator, I’ve selected “faith and iron” (“tru ok jarn” without diacritics) as something I’d like to have inscribed on a sword. Do you know of any existing examples of that phrase/inscription? I’m attracted to the Anglo-Saxon runes over the Elder Futhark and Long Branch, but any example of that phrase would be great.
Thanks!
Hello Sean. No, I am not aware of a Viking Age runic inscriptions with these words. Besides, Old Norse phrase would hardly have been written in Anglo-Saxon runes, devised specifically for Old English.
Hi im trying to find a saying to get engraved inside my fiancée wedding ring. He works on the set of Vikings and I was originally trying to get a viking style ring for him but it seems to be near impossible. Thanks
There are a couple of norse themed jewelry sites, but your best bet is to find a local jeweler who custom makes jewelery. Not like a mall store, but a mom’n’pop type shop. This was the route I had to go for my wife’s Chladaigh ring.
Hey, I need this for a wedding ceremony.
“There is no Law beyond do what thou wilt.
Love is the Law. Love under Will.
There shall be no Law beyond do what thou wilt.”
Cheers!
Hi I’m writing to you in desperate need of a translation. I want to take an old Norse phrase. “The Wolf and the Dog do not play together”. And “Be the light”…. “Be the fight”. If you could help me I’d be willing to compensate and it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you much,
Drew Johnson
