Just added a page with a new feature: the Rune Converter. One can input a word or phrase, press the “convert” button and get the same sequence of signs in runes. So the converter transforms the letters of the Roman alphabet into runic writing. What distinguishes it among similar scripts is its extended functionality: there is a drop down menu that allows to choose between five different runic alphabets: Elder Futhark, Anglo-Saxon Futhorc, Long Branch Younger Futhark, Short Twig Younger Futhark and staveless runes. Such a wide choice available at one page within seconds makes the feature truly unique. It may be used both just for fun and for serious purposes like creating a logo, a bookplate, a craftsman’s mark and so on. Perhaps the most obvious idea would be to write with runes one’s own name, and that’s why the page provides a few patterns present in real runic inscriptions that contain names: for instance, it’s explained how to write “John Doe owns me” with Anglo-Saxon runes or “Jane Doe made me” with Elder Futhark runes. Such marks would make things that you own or made look really cool, especially if some Norse or Germanic connotation is involved. The other option would be to write the names of your dear ones (by the way, if you carve in runes an inscription containing the name of the person you love and you add the words owns me, the whole phrase may acquire a whole new sense). Writing phrases or mottoes in English is also perfectly possible: in this case runes will be used as a secret code. To be sure, staveless runes will look the most “secret” because of their weird minimalist appearance. Your own creativity will suggest more solutions. Enjoy. Feedback is welcome, as always.
